Common mistakes when applying for Hungary from the UK

Booking the wrong VFS category. Hungary lists appointments by purpose — a tourism slot won't do for a study or business trip. Match the category to your trip.
Applying to Hungary when it isn't your main destination. If you'll spend more days elsewhere in Schengen, that country's consulate is the right one.
Confusing the honorary consul with the visa centre. Biometrics are given at VFS Global (London/Manchester/Edinburgh), not at an honorary consulate.
Insurance that doesn't meet the €30,000 Schengen minimumor doesn't cover the whole area.
Leaving it late. Appointments can be scarce before summer and around Budapest event weekends; you can apply up to 6 months ahead.
